Stealing from "The Ritz" (Part II)

While trying to emulate Ritz Carlton’s service ethic in spirit (Part I blog post), we’ve also found some nice ways for guests to enjoy spreading out in the space, privacy and ambiance of Casa Campana, while complementing their experience with some of the actual services provided at the nearby Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain Resort.

With completion of a recent road project , access to Dove Mountain is now very convenient – if you can get yourself past the resort security checkpoint that is! Don’t worry, we’ll tell you how.

Insider Tip:

There are two methods to get you past the Ritz Carlton Resort security checkpoint.
1 ) Book a reservation at one of the resort restaurants.
2) Go for a day hike on the Wild Burro Trail – the trailhead is near the resort and access cannot be denied at the resort security checkpoint.

As with most vacation rental owners, when we are at Casa Campana, days are filled with maintenance chores, extra cleaning and our most dreaded of activities… shopping! Each trip we try to dedicate at least one day as ‘Vacation Day’ and combine R&R; at the house with a visit to The Ritz for an ultimate play day.

Our Favorite Ritz Carlton Activities:

Schedule a Tee Time at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. Some tee times are open to resort guests only, but if you aren’t particular about the exact time you play, tee times can be booked through GolfNow.com, often at a discount.
The 27-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed club was the site of the Accenture Match Play PGA tournament for several years through 2014 and is one of the most scenic courses in the West. Set high up in the Tortolita Foothills, the views are amazing.
Just FYI: The Gallery and Heritage Highlands Golf Clubs are also just minutes from Casa Campana inside the Dove Mountain community.

Spend Cocktail Hour on the Ritz Carlton Patio. The ‘Ignite’ bar patio is a great place for a drink and an appetizer. The patio overlooks the expansive resort pool, with the Tortolita Foothills rising dramatically in the background. Towering saguaros and rugged mountain walls set the stage for the wonderful ceremonial Native American flute recital around dusk every night. It makes for quite an atmosphere.

A singer/guitarist frequently performs a bit later on weekend evenings. Call the resort operator at +1 (520) 572-3000 to get approximate times for the flute and musical performances.

Dine at the Resort. The only “hitch” to the ‘Cocktail Hour on the Patio plan’ above, is that you’ll need a reservation at one of the resort restaurants to get through the resort security checkpoint. For this, we recommend dining at either the main Ritz Carlton dining room called ‘Core Kitchen’, or at ‘Cayton’s Burger Bar’ at the golf club after cocktails.

Core can be a bit pricey, especially for a large group, but the food and service are very good. Cayton’s is another, more reasonably priced relaxed option, and is still a very nice establishment. Depending on the time of year, the expansive covered patio at Cayton’s is a great location for evening dining.

Call the resort operator at +1 (520) 572-3000 for reservations at either restaurant, or book through OpenTable.com.

So for an ultimate day of R&R; at Casa Campana, send your golfers up to The Golf Club at Dove Mountain for a round, stay behind in your own oasis for a morning soak in the spa, and an afternoon sunbathing and floating in privacy. Abandon early wake up calls and strategies for saving lounge chairs, umbrellas, or the best niches for peace and quiet. For the ultimate lazy afternoon, crawl into the pool-side Bali-style lounge bed, lower the sun shades and read or nap to your heart’s content.

The perfect day off probably doesn’t include breaking out of your rest-induced trance to cook for a crowd, so head up to the Ritz Carlton for evening drinks, light entertainment, and a delicious meal in an another beautiful setting. All combined, this could raise a ‘5-star’ vacation day to something even more exquisite - if that’s possible!
